About Kk Lightsmith
I identify as queer, non binary, White (English & Swiss descent), US born, able-bodied, Middle-class, and spiritual. My own therapy experiences have changed my life and I continue to pursue my personal therapy journey.
I come back to myself and find communion with others through cooking, singing, and dancing. I love being a parent and a partner; spending time with my chosen family is my harbor. I love to be in oceans, forests, graveyards, and other places where I feel small and yet a part of everything else.
Education & Training
I recognize that my white, cisgender passing, non-parolee, native English speaking and able-body, and straight passing privileges have allowed me access to education and tests that were centered to white English speakers and ultimately to higher education and board certification.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Washington. I hold a Masters of Early Education from Loyola of Maryland and a Masters of Arts In Couple and Family Therapy from Seattle University. I chose these programs because of my strong belief in relationships, social change, and radical care.
I am trained in EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). I use EFCT in my work with partnerships and EMDR with people wanting to overcome past hurts and process trauma. I continue to train in these because I value somatic healing, a base in attachment theory, and a focus on the here and now in therapy.
I have worked with children and families for the past decade as a coach, educator, and head of school. As a Certified Positive Discipline Trainer and Montessori trained teacher, I offer compassion and solutions to families of all types.
